Technical breakdown

How we built it

The platform uses a Next.js front-end, Node.js API, MySQL database and a WebRTC SFU for live video. Tutors create profiles with subjects, languages, certifications and pricing, then expose recurring availability slots that students can book in real time. The booking engine handles timezone conversion, double-booking prevention, cancellation rules, refunds and notifications. Scheduling integrates with Google and Outlook calendars through OAuth. The classroom supports HD video, screen share, in-call chat and a basic shared whiteboard. Payments run through Stripe with per-session and package billing, plus payouts to tutors via Stripe Connect. A messaging inbox supports tutor-student communication outside class. Reporting gives admins insight into tutor utilisation, student retention, lesson volume and revenue. The system is deployed on a managed cloud with autoscaling for class peaks and CDN-accelerated assets. Comprehensive logging, monitoring and on-call alerts keep classes online during business hours.

Impact & results

What we delivered

No-show rate dropped sharply thanks to automated reminders and timezone-aware scheduling. Tutor onboarding time fell from days to under 30 minutes with the self-serve profile wizard.
