Tail & Feather is a full-scale pet care exchange platform that connects verified pet parents inside a trusted community. The system supports live booking requests, map based service area selection, integrated payments, KYC verification, dispute management, subscriptions and real-time alerts.

How we worked
We followed a discovery-first approach, mapping every persona journey and operational workflow. Then we delivered the platform in iterative milestones: KYC + profiles, booking + payments, chat + alerts, admin + reporting. Each milestone was demoed live, signed off by stakeholders and pushed to staging before production.

Technical breakdown
How we built it
The platform is built as a service-oriented application with a Next.js web client, React Native mobile app and a Node.js API that talks to MySQL and Redis. KYC is handled through a third-party identity provider with secure document upload to S3 and an internal review queue. Booking uses a real-time engine that cross-checks provider availability, service radius (calculated through geo-spatial queries) and pet type compatibility before locking a slot. Payments flow through Stripe Connect with split payouts, refunds and dispute hooks; subscriptions are managed via Stripe Billing. A coupon engine supports percentage, fixed and first-booking discounts with rule-based stacking. Real-time chat and alerts run on WebSockets with offline push fallback through FCM and APNs. The admin console exposes user, booking, payout, dispute and content moderation tools, role-based access and full audit trails. Observability is provided by structured logs, metrics dashboards and alerting hooks for failed payments or KYC drops.
Impact & results
What we delivered
Average booking confirmation now happens in under 90 seconds end to end. KYC approval throughput tripled with the moderation queue, and chargebacks dropped sharply thanks to Stripe Connect handling and the in-app dispute flow.
