How we worked
We ran AI-prompt experiments with real travellers in week one, then layered the AI on top of a deterministic optimiser so itineraries stayed grounded. Weekly travel-day usability tests informed every release.

Technical breakdown
How we built it
The product is delivered through a Next.js web app and a Node.js API, with PostgreSQL for relational trip data and Elasticsearch for fast destination search. The AI itinerary engine combines a rules-based optimiser (distances, opening hours, traveller pace, budget) with an LLM layer that explains and refines suggestions in natural language. Hotel and flight inventory is pulled live from third-party APIs, normalised into a unified schema and cached at the edge. Users build itineraries day by day with drag-and-drop reordering, and the system reflows transit time, cost and feasibility automatically. Booking is a guided checkout that hands off to partner booking flows with deep links and tracked conversion. Personalisation uses traveller history, saved preferences and trip context to bias recommendations. Admin tooling covers content management for destinations and experiences, partner management, and analytics on funnel, conversion, route popularity and revenue per partner. Observability, error tracking and feature flags support fast experimentation.
Impact & results
What we delivered
Itinerary creation time dropped from hours to minutes. Conversion from itinerary to booking improved measurably as the AI explanations built traveller confidence in each suggested step.
