Project overview

At a glance

Our client wanted a national marketplace for sports goods covering web, iOS and Android.

We delivered the full stack from database design through to deployment and long-term maintenance.

The platform now serves shoppers and vendors alike at scale.

What we solved

Real challenges, real solutions

  • 1

Existing systems could not handle the SKU volume or peak shopping traffic without slowing down.

  • 2

Vendors needed a self-serve portal and reliable payouts to commit their inventory to the marketplace.

  • 3

Mobile shoppers expected the same rich experience as desktop, with deep links and push campaigns.

Our approach

How we worked

We split the team across web, mobile and platform tracks running in parallel sprints. A shared design system and API contract kept everyone aligned, and a hardening sprint before launch focused purely on performance, SEO and resilience.

Delivery stages

  1. 01Discovery
  2. 02Design system
  3. 03API & data
  4. 04Storefront & apps
  5. 05QA & SEO
  6. 06Launch & maintenance

Technical breakdown

How we built it

The marketplace runs on a Next.js storefront and admin dashboard, native iOS and Android apps backed by a shared REST API, and a Node.js + Express service layer with MySQL and Redis. The catalog supports millions of SKUs through indexed search (Elasticsearch), faceted filtering by sport, brand, size, colour and price, plus rule-based merchandising slots. Vendors onboard through a self-serve wizard, manage products and orders in their own portal and receive automated payouts after order completion. Order management handles split shipments, returns, refunds and dispute flows with full ledger entries. Mobile apps share a unified design system with the web storefront and use deep linking for marketing campaigns. SEO is baked in with server-rendered pages, schema markup, sitemaps, image optimisation and CDN. The platform is covered by automated unit, integration and end-to-end test suites, with CI/CD pipelines, structured logging, performance monitoring and on-call alerts. A long-term maintenance contract covers proactive updates, tuning and feature roadmap delivery.

Impact & results

What we delivered

Search and listing pages render in under a second under load. Mobile app crash rate stays under 0.2%, and the platform sustains traffic spikes during seasonal sports campaigns without manual intervention.
